Some flower or other in watercolour pen

Honestly? This is nothing. I was just doodling. It's not even based on a real flower, although I suppose it looks vaguely marigoldish.

Sometimes you just have to play with your toys, that's all.

Narcissus in watercolour pen

I always seem to say that these are quick doodles, but this one was honestly so quick that even though it was done with watercolour pens I didn't bother to do any wash or blending and ended up just using them as felt markers, more or less.

This week's Illustration Friday prompt was poise. The first thing that came to mind is how narcissus, tulips, crocuses and the like always look so bright and cheery poised on their rather plain foliage, especially after everything's been dull for so long.

Everything's still dull here, but I hope someone out there is actually having spring.

Subtracting in graphite

This week's Illustration Friday prompt is subtract. I actually had a couple of ideas for this.

I also have a headache.

That probably explains why you're getting the ants instead of one of the other ideas.

This one didn't photograph especially well; mostly because the photographer had a headache (does now, too, but it's a different headache at least) and couldn't be bothered with holding the camera still enough for a decent macro.

And it's Play-doh, so... whatever.

I really do intend to do some drawing again at some point. Really. This was just me trying to make myself feel better on a mopey day. Didn't especially work, but hey. Points for the effort.

I suppose I need to explain the wishy-washy title.

The weather outside is unseasonably cold (not cool; cold), so I decided I should paint a flower. This caused two problems. First, I don't really paint. Second, there are no flowers to be seen at the moment. Well, the second problem was easily solved by the fact that I have loads of flower photos on the other blog. The first problem was sort of solved by the fact that I had some watercolour pencils with me (I'm house-sitting right now, so I don't have my usual toys along). Watercolour pencils + a horrible grade-school brush I found in the closet = ok, we're going to paint a flower if that's what you want to do, Dee.

For those wondering why I had my watercolour book with me when I didn't bring watercolours... shh. Don't complicate things.

So, the result? Not overly lame, I guess. Especially considering the brush. It's really, really bad.

Oh, and even though some of the lines look like I gave up and just started drawing with the pencils, I promise that everything is, indeed, painted with the brush. Using the pencil tips as paint pots. Which is... weird.

Bifurcations in pen and ink

Today's (well, yesterday's) doodle in the moleskine (as usual, click on the photo to enlarge it) was brought on by the Illustration Friday prompt Intricate.

Real-life plants can be extremely intricate in their patterns of branching and development.

Does this nonsensical scribble have anything to do with a real-life plant? Absolutely not. Is it intricate? Not especially. It was, however, fun to make.

That's more important than you might think. I've been a bit depressed lately, and it's been a long time since I sat down to doodle just for fun. Maybe this will lead to more doodling just for fun.

I'd like that.
