This week's Illustration Friday prompt is caged. Apparently the little modelling clay men have fallen afoul of the play-doh blobs for some reason...
IF's site appears to be a bit gibbled right now, so I haven't been able to upload this yet. I'll try to remember to do it later.

Edited to say: ok, it's posted now. Being posted doesn't make it any less weird, of course...
Home of Vague Mutterings.
Why? Well, why not? And yes (since I know you must be wondering),
it is a good shrubbery. I like the laurels particularly.

What I did at the conference
I should make it clear that the conference was for environmental educators, not Play-doh. You have to do something to keep your hands occupied while your brain is (allegedly) engaged, though, so Play-doh it was. That and pipe cleaners.
This is the only effort I took a picture of, but the total output (as best I can remember it) was one bird, one ear, a bowl, a fish, several small vases, and a lot of general smooshing (all with the Play-doh), and a flower and a snail (with the pipe cleaners).
I should have taken a photo of the snail, really. It was kind of neat.
Anyway, I'm back now and will hopefully have something to post for this week's Illustration Friday sometime in the next day or two.
If I don't decide to just spend the weekend sleeping, that is.

Birds. Well, kinda sorta.

I, um...
I think that maybe I need to get out more.
Yeah.

Some sort of salamanderish thing in Play-doh

And it's Play-doh, so... whatever.
I really do intend to do some drawing again at some point. Really. This was just me trying to make myself feel better on a mopey day. Didn't especially work, but hey. Points for the effort.

Rather Pointless Bird in Play-doh
Honestly? I've been a bit down in the dumps lately.
Maybe more than a bit.
Not exactly conducive to creativity, as many of you no doubt know.
Anyway, until I feel more like doing something actually worth preserving, I guess I'll be sticking to digital photos of Play-doh. It's something, anyway.
Something pointless. And yes, I do realise that my pointlessness usually belongs here... just consider this a slight, temporary spill-over.

Black Cat in Play-doh

Poor guy sat out a bit too long before I remembered to take his picture, though. You can tell by the cracks in his nose. I got too busy trying to make a neon-orange squirrel, you see, and...
Yeah, yeah, I know. Don't worry -- Play-doh's not going to be the only theme on the blog. I have drawing plans. Really. Actual sketches as opposed to doodles. I just have to get around to them, that's all. And since I'm not too comfortable sitting for long periods of time at the moment (nothing serious; just a temporarily unhappy hip), getting around to them might take a little longer than I'd first thought.
In the meantime... Play-doh cat.
Uh huh.

Flowerish Something in Play-doh
Or a Nothing. That fits too.
I was just playing around out of sheer frustration. About what? Doesn't matter. The result was something vaguely flower-bud-ish, I guess. Sort of pseudosunflower, in a way.
Oh, and the purple tinge is entirely an artifact of the photoeditor. I hit the quick fix button, and decided that maybe I liked the way the artificial purple went with the flowerish Play-doh.
Whatever works, right?

Wild Rose in Play-doh
This is meant to be Alberta's provincial flower, the Prickly Wild Rose (Rosa acicularis). It's not entirely accurate, but then I should point out that it's MADE OUT OF PLAY-DOH.
Yep, more Play-doh.

Shells in Play-doh

Today's offering comes courtesy of yesterday, when the high windchill meant that I was unexpectedly housebound again.
For more whining about the whole housebound thing, go visit the other blog. I don't need to be whining in two places at once, you know.
So why shells? Well, the real things were on hand.
So why do I have shells on hand? In case I feel like sketching them, of course.

Yes, I do realise that I'm weird. Thank you very much.
Anyway, the two photos are because the one with the flash came out clearer but the one without shows the texture better. Not that the texture is important -- it's PLAY-DOH, after all -- but since I took the time to put in a little texture I thought I should point out that the texture is there.
I'm going now. And if you do happen to follow the link to the other blog, I didn't post yesterday because I was housebound and making shells with play-doh. And I haven't posted yet today because I've got actual work to do. I'll try to find something to blather about later in the day.

Spider in... erm... Play-doh

It was a Christmas present.
And if the person who gave it to me didn't see the first subject coming from a mile away, then she juuust isn't paying attention.
So, will this lead to more Play-doh sculptures showing up in the future? Oh, probably. The stuff's just about right for Yours Of The Short Attention Span, after all. Here, I'll even give it it's very own label:
