Illumination

One light
and only one
discovers
subtle curves
and shadow

One light
aimed with care
excludes
harsh detail
and confusion

One light
and the rest dark
clarifies
simplifies
falsifies
so the unthinking picture
can draw itself

----------

This is about sketching.

No, really. It is.

Any other conclusion you draw is your own...

And I am learning photography is also all about the light. And sometimes about the shadows. But more often the light. How strong it is, where it is on the subject, etc. Very similar to painting. My son paints the most beautiful photographs. They are like art. He used to be so talented in high school in art class. But he could not stand the imperfection of his work. He often ripped up his art.
So, he quit sketching. I wish I had grabbed some of his art and kept it.
